Much work goes into a theatre
production and "Night Watch", to
be presented July 25, 26 and 27
in the A. T. Mahan High School
Multi-purpose room, is a good ex-
ample .
Director K. Hockerston Tagg's
job began the moment she was
chosen to head the production
crew and claims she has been "ex-
cited about it since the prelim-
inary stages." One of those sta-
ges was the preparation of her
director's script, jotting down
tentative on - stage movements,
setting designs, among many other
numerous production notes. Her
difficult job is eased relatively
by various individuals in her
production crew. This is her
first experience in directing a-
dults.
Production secretary, Gayle
Rowland works very closely with
the director. It's her job to
make sure that the actors and ac-
tresses deliver their lines cor-
rectly and carry out blocked-
movements on the stage.
Stage manager, John Tibor is
responsible for the construction
of The sc., which often continues
until opening night. All the con-
struction on the " Night Watch "
set takes place in a lumber-clut-
tered, carpentry back room of the
theatre building. Among the set
rubble of previous productions,
the remnants of materials are
sorted and layed out to build the
sec for the current production.
Due to muslin shortage several
months ago and the time factor in
getting materials from stateside,
often worn - out and over - used
flats, that should have seen
their last production. must be
recycled. They are patcned-up,
painted and moved to the n...
Marian High School for yet another
show opening.
Makeup man Bob Haagenson must
read the script very carefully to
get an accurate description of
the characters. From these de-
scriptions, the makeup man pre-
pares facial charts for each
character in the cast. Normally
one rehearsal is especially de-
voted to applying the makeup to
check its appearance on stage un-
der the lights to be used. This
allows ample time to correct or
adjust any makeup features of the
face.
From the rough read-through of
the script and crews assignments
to opening night when the lights
dim and the stage lights come up
Karen Tagg following the ac-
tion during a rehearsal.
those un - seen rehearsals and
technical problems fade in the
past and round out to become a-
nother polished performance for
the NATO Station by the Ice and
Fire Theatre Group.
