July 4th--A Day of Fun and Laughter
An Independence Day celebra-
tion was held here July 4 to hon-
or the 198th birthday of the
United States of America.
The day's festivities started
with a parade around the base.
The Marine Color Guard headed the
parade, followed by cartoon char-
acters , clowns, a fire truck, a
Navy amphibious vehicle, Cub
■couts, decorated bicycles and a
*loat from the Military Affilia-
ted Radio Station (MARS) here.
Various children's events were
held on the field adjacent to the
ball diamond across from the
Youth Center. The events were
supervised by the Youth Center
personnel and included the fol-
lowing: Rabbit Race, Backwards
Race, Hopping Race, Shoe Scram-
ble, Egg Toss, Sack Race, Two-
legged Race and a Pie Eating con-
test.
The Amateur Talent contest
scheduled to take place at the
Andrews Theater was cancelled due
to lack of participants.

games played are on the sports
page.
