Chaplain Parker
gets a big
send-off surprise
About 100 base personnel attended a
surprise "going-away" party for Chaplain
Charles Parker at the Glacier Hut last
Saturday.
Chaplain Parker, who has been assign-
ed here at the station chapel for the
past two years, will transfer to the
Naval Air Station Saufley Field, Fla.,
Feb. 25.
While here Chaplain Parker has become
a "radio personality" because of the
early morning radio show he has aired on
Radio 1484, featuring a sermonette and
country and western religious music.
Colin Kelley presented gifts to the
Parker family on behalf of the chapel
congregation.
A wooden, inlaid music box which
plays the theme from "Dr. Zhivago" was
given to the Parkers. The Parkers also
received an Icelandic sheepskin rug on
which members of the congregation signed
their names.
Vi Eastman, a cake decorating in-
structor here, baked a cake in honor of
the Parker family. The cake bore the
iced inscription "God Bless You on Your
Transfer." The cake also included maps
of both Iceland and Florida.
While expressing his thanks for the
gifts and dinner, Chaplain Parker des-
cribed a card which a child gave him re-
cently. It read, "The team won’t be the
same without you."

Admin’s 39-36 win over Grindy was
picked as the Basketball Game of the
Week. They overcame a 23-10 lead at
halftime, to win the game.
Grindy shot at the good basket the
entire first half, however it was a dif-
ferent story in the second half shooting
at the smaller basket.
A determined Admin defense limited
Grindy to only six baskets, four by
Randy Spillers. Admin all started
hitting the larger basket as the fa-
voring "wind" gave them the necessary
confidence.
Player of the Week
A1 Price of Rockville was chosen as
basketball's Player of the Week for his
24 point contribution against VP-56 in a
lost cause and aiding his team to two
other wins during the week. Price has
been here for only 10 games, however,
during this time, Rockville has improved
their won-lost record by 40 per cent
while being competitive in their losses.
A1 is a 6’4", 240 lb. giant who fea-
tures a soft jump shot which is effec-
tive to 15 feet. He is left-handed all
the way and is averaging 13 points a
game.
A1 is a member of the All-Stars team
and has been instrumental in our strong
showing against the Icelandic National
team.
Playoffs begin tomorrow
The playoffs for the Basketball
league opens Saturday at noon with eight
games on tap for the day. Eight games
will follow on Monday, starting at noon,
with the tournament finals Friday.
Predicted finalists are Hospital, Ma-
rines and VP-56. The Hospital team has
compiled an amazing record of 27
straight wins, so logically they should
be the favorite. However, Marines and
VP-56 have both lost by two-point de-
cisions to Hospital giving them upset
possibilities.

BASKETBALL LEAGUES LEADING SCORERS
AMERICAN BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Scoring leaders were Pat Dornbocer
with 12 points and Bill Stone and
Wayne Gerald both with 10 for Admin
while Randy Spillers with 16 was high
for the Grindy team and for the game.
JGG wins ladies
league tournament
The Jolly Green Giants won the Ladies
Basketball League Championships by de-
feating the Rugrats, 19-18. The first
half belonged to the Rugrats as they
opened up a 15-10 lead only to be caught
in the last 40 seconds.
Ruth Connell's layup with 15 seconds
left in the game sewed up the verdict as
Beth Carson's jump shot rimmed out at
the final buzzer. High scorer for the
Rugrats was Mary Jo Jerowicz with 12
points while Ruth Connell also scored 12
for the Jolly Green Giants.
IDF wins playoffs
IDF defeated VP-56 in their big
shootout for first place in the Racquet-
ball A league. Both* finished tied for
the league and were still tied after
the six playoff matches, 3-3.
A unique playoff system was devised
where the number four men played eight
points with VP winding up ahead, 5-3.
After the number three men completed
their eight points, the score was 9-7
with VP-56 still ahead. But Harry
Warner of IDF came back from a 12-7 de-
ficit to tie at 12-12, setting the stage
for the number one men to decide the
game. John Gardner opened a 17-12 lead
for the VP-56 but Pete Hershfield reac-
ted to the challenge to score the next
nine points becoming 21-17 for IDF.
Final game of series Sunday
The last game of the Ambassador's Cup

Come out and support your team as it
is the strongest in many years. Refresh-
ments will be served for players and
presenting party after the game.
