Golf tourney results Bernard Lucas won the first place trophy in the Bicentennial golf tourna- ment held at the Keflavik Golf Course. Lucas, whose handicap is 21, made a 44 on the front with a 46 on the back. With front and back totaling 90, he netted a 69 for the tournament. Softball-games of the week In fastpitch between the Air Force and Navy all-stars it was all Doug Passen as he pitched a no-hit, no-run game while striking out nine. The score was 12-0 as the Navy did all the hitting and scoring. Leading the hit parade were: John Dennison, Lou Kutzera and Randy Spillers with 2/3. Losing pitcher was Gene Benson. In intermediate Navy outlasted Air Force 15-14. John Pozniak opened with a homerun on the first pitch as Navy was ahead as each inning ended. John Pozniak 3/4, Mick O'Dell 3/4, and Randy Spillers 4/4, were leading hitters for Navy. For Air Force, Bill Schatz led with 4/5. Homering were Schatz and Meredith for Air Force while Navy had Pozniak, Spillers and Doug Passen. Randy Spillers was the winning pitcher and most valuable player while Kevin Gallagher picked up the loss. Waves beat Winners In women's all-star games the Waves showed why they are leading the league as they defeated the Winners 12-9. Roxie Dodd used her golden glove and fleet feet plus strong bat to win the most valuable player trophy. Leading hitters for the Waves were Babe Kidwell 3/4, Robin Roberts 3/3, and Lois Turner 3/3. For the Winners it was Pat Tenerio 3/4 and Dutch Mueller 3/4. The Waves were augmented by NSGA and NAVFAC while the Winners were a combo of Independents and NCS. Feature of the day The feature of the day turned into a rout as the American League scored four runs in the first inning to beat the favored National League 21-16. Eleven hits and five homers had Gene Benson (21-0) in a state of shock, however, he recovered to hold the hard-hitting Amer- ican League to seven over the last in- nings . The National League had a big inning in the third as they scored nine, but it was not enough. Leading hitters were: Randy Spillers 4/5, Red Fleming 3/4, Paul Neuman 3/4, for the American entry while in the Na- tional it was Phill Harris 3/4. Homer hitters were: David Stokes, Steve Romeo and Paul Neuman, Ed Fleming and Lou Kutzera. Bob Stocking picked up the win while Dave Neuman was selected as most valuable player with a 3/4 performance ar.d a perfect strike throw from left to cut down a run and nip a rally in the bud. For Randy Spillers getting 4/5 it got revenge as Gene Benson had struck him out twice for his all-time low point to date. VP-5 wins, 16-12 The 10-inning thriller between Wea- pons and VP-5 was chosen as one of the game of the week not only for brilliant plays but also for sportsmanship. VP-5 agreed to play the game over after Wea- pons got their signals crossed on Thurs- day and failed to show up, thus creating a forfeit situation. The game was a thriller all the way as the box score went as follows: Innings 123456789 10 VP-5—16 0530130004 Weapons—12 2320500000 Leading hitters were: Lou Boudreaux, 3/4, Ron Bryant, 3/4, and Bill Waldron, 2/3, with a homer for VP-5 while for Weapons it was: Austin Healy, 4/4, ^nd Bob Carroll, 3/5. A great throw by Duke Snyder at shortstop cut down the winning run in the eighth for Weapons. Swim meet Nearly 50 spectators watched the Bicentennial Swim Meet held at the Base Pool Saturday night.
