Grindy clobbers VP-49, 22-6 Grindy toppled VP-49, 22-6, in the 1976 touch football double elimination tournament Wednesday in the season's first game. Grindy opened the scoring early in the first half by sacking Vildly In the end zone for a 2-0 score. Both teams made excellent defensive plays throughout the first half, but Grindy extended its lead to 8-0 on a 16- yarder to O'Dell. In the second half, Grindy again led with Spillers' passing and running, mak- ing it 14-0 on a 7-yd. pass to Herly. VP-49 quickly closed the gap to 14-6 on a 5-yd. pass from Wildly to Krayer. Grindy closed the scoring on a 16- yarder to Babuela for a 22-6 victory. In the second game, CFK downed Det. 14, 18-14. Both teams, each possessing excellent passing, had two quarterbacks with the ability to pass and run in Rick Garlie of Det. 14 and Ken Cason of CFK. Each of them threw a pair of touchdown passes to their respective receivers to keep the score close until Cason’s 55-yd. burst up field put CFK on top to stay.
