Passports Are you planning to travel this sum- mer? Don't forget that some countries do require military personnel to have a passport in addition to an ID card and NATO leave papers. If you are going to a country that does require a passport, and don't yet have one, you should start applying for one at least a month in ad- vance to be sure of receiving it in time. To receive a passport, you must have a notarized birth certificate, two pictures in the proper size and a money order for $13. To obtain the proper kind of pic- tures, you can go to the Naval Station Photo Lab in the white building opposite the Marine Barracks. The lab takes pic- tures for passports every Tuesday and Thursday between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. Once the pictures are taken, it general- ly requires five to seven working days before they are ready to be picked up. When you have your photos, birth cer- tificate or old passport and money or- der, you then go to the passport office at the IDF building to fill out the forms and apply for the passport. It takes two to three weeks to pro- cess the application and have the pass- port ready to pick up. So don't delay, get your passport now so it will be rea- dy when you want to travel.
