Players will be selected through a nomination and tryout process. Tryouts will be conducted for all Air Force players at 1 p.m. on June 18, and tryouts for Navy players will be at 4 p.m. on the same day. CLASSIFIED ADS AF softball camp open Air Force men and women interested in the 1978 Air Force slowpitch softball training camps should apply now. Applications are processed through major commands to advise Air Force Man- power and Personnel Center (AFMPC) sports officials of qualified players who are eligible for consideration. This is the first year the Air Force will be competing in the women’s divi- sion. The womens camp will be at Shep- pard AFB, TX, while the men’s camp will be at Eglin AFB, FL. Individuals interested in applying should contact the athletic director at 4558 for details and assistance in pre- paring the application. Completed ap- plications are due at AFMPC, July 7, for the training camps, Aug. 1-20. Top qualifiers will represent the Aix Force in the interservice championships Aug. 21-25. The women will compete at Sheppard. The men will travel to In- diantown Gap, Pa, to defend its title which was won last yearv Little League kicks off season The base Little League began its sea- son Monday evening with its first half Minor and Major games. Commander R. Heine, public works of- ficer, threw out the first Minor League ball for the game between the Tigers and the Royals.. The Tigers won 16-7. Captain Jack T. Weir, naval station commanding officer, was invited by tne Little League to throw the first Major League game ball. Capt. Weir thanked league officials for their fine work with the young ball players and also wished everyone a successful season. The Astros played the Cards during the second game. The Astros won 9 to 4 and their Ronald Parker hit the first homerun of the season. The ball sailed over the left-center fence and scored three runs for the Astros. Ronald is the only player to hit a homerun over the fence last summer and so far this one too. Golf classic registration set The 1978 base International Golf Classic will get underway at 9 a.m. June 24. Base golfers will compete against the Sadurnesja Golf Club in Keflavik and the Westman Island Golf Club. The classic is expected to attract more than 100 golfers. All base golfers wishing to compete must register with the Athletic Director no later than June 16. Blanks pitches softball no-hitter In a game between Weapons/NEX and Danny downed High school 7-0. The High school, Danny Blanks recorded the only High school player to reach base season's first no-hit softball game. was on a throwing error.
