Basketball Classic continues
Navy women
'squash’
AF women
In a near-record crowd attrac-
tion, the Navy women, piloted by
NSGA Chiefs’ Wives and assisted by
a group of "cheerleaders", squashed
the Air Force women, 28-12.
Navy, led by Michele Crawford's
broken field running and excellent
speed, consistently caught the Air
Force defense off guard.
Scoring on runs of 6A and AO
yards and then amassing more
than 2A0 yards rushine. Michele
easily won the tournament's Most
Valuable Player Award.

Children accompanied
Children under 12 must be ac-
companied and supervised by parents
or adults at least 18 years old.
Recently, more youths are coming
to the base gym on weekends, stay-
ing for the rest of the day. The
unaccompanied children have caused
serious disciplinary problems, a
division official states.
Tickets on sale Nov. 8
Ticket sales for the Sports
Award Banquet are limited. Tickets
will be sold to those athletes who
have participated in the recent
sports events first.
Beginning Nov. 8, tickets will
be available at the base gym 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
According to the Athletic Divi-
sion, the 1978 Naval Station Invi-
tational Basketball Classic, which
began Wednesday, will continue un-
til Tuesday.
Staging this tournament repre-
sents a year-long desire and plan-
ning to present this classic, a
division spokesman states.
The athletic director explains
that the tournament is designed to
place the base varsity level bas-
ketball program on an equal plane
with other military installations.
A solid building ground for base
teams in international competition
is a major goal of the tournament,
according to the Athletic Division.
Teams competing in the classic
include: Men's—Base, Grindavik,
Njardvik, IR and Arman; Women's--
Grindavik, IS, IR and KR.
The classic schedule is as fol-
lows :
The Keflavik Bowling Associa-
tion will hold its annual scholar-
ship fund raising marathon this
weekend at the Arctic Lanes.
Participating in this year's
marathon will be Board of Director1
members Peggy Widenor, Laura
Fiege and Sandy Peterson, repre-
senting the Women's Association,
and Bob Dixon, Jim Miles, Dave
Haviland, Jim Metcalf, Jeff Man-
ley and Nick Nicholson of the
Men's Association.
All participants collected
pledges for the past month from
base personnel to help support the
association scholarship fund for

The classic will consist of a
single round robin tournament in
both men's and women's categories.
The team compiling the best won/
loss record will be the tournament
champion.
A.T. Mahan High School graduates.
During the past two years, the
association has awarded $3,800 in
scholarships to graduating seniors,
primarily through the fund-raising
marathon.
The marathon will begin at mid-
night and continue until midnight
Sunday or until the participants
can no longer continue.
Pledges will be accepted at the
Bowling Alley throughout the mara-
thon .
KMBA secretary Dave Haviland,
marathon bowler veteran, will at-
tempt to improve on his previous
year's record of 110 games bowled.
Final basketball meetina
To distribute pre-league tourna-
ment schedules, the final basket-
ball meeting is slated for Monday
at 6 p.m. at the base gym.
Racquetball meeting
The pre-league and ladder
tournament racquetball meeting is
scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m.
at the base gym.
