Intramural League action
League bowling squares off
The American League’s top two
teams squared off Monday night and
ended in a draw as the intramural
bowling season reached the midway
point of the season. Second place
Food Service couldn't pick up any
ground on the front running Det 2
attack with a 589 and 535 series,
respectively.
In other American League action,
Ken Peer’s 215 game and 561 set
led AFI to a 3-1 win over NavFac
and ComSta shut out Rockville, 4-0,
behind Vernon Matteson's 561. Don
Bailey (557) and Tim Mueller (522)
paced IDF's 3-1 win over 57 FIS
while Comptroller was shutting out
NBS, 4-0. Jesse Pena's 526 led VP-5
past AIMD, 3-1.
Greg Powers' 536 and Homer
Payette's 513 gave ComSta Admin a
4-0 decision over Medical to in-
crease their league lead to five
and one half games.
Meanwhile, second place Recrea-
tion won three from H-l behind Ted
iCaminski (546) and Bill Hershey
(o^7). In remaining action,
ComSta TTY swept Supply //2, 4-0,
Rockville bested the Supply Chiefs,
3-1 and AFI won three from the Navy
Exchange on the strength of Sam
Tullie's 569 series.
Doug Bowling and Bill Mathews
led ComSta NRK past 57th FIS, 4-0,
to expand their North Atlantic
League to seven games Monday night.
At the same time second placed
Supply //3 was surprised by AIMD,
getting shut out, 4-0.
In remaining action, Dan
Larose's 602 set (201, 218, 183,)
wasn't enough to offset CFK as Sec-
urity dropped three to CFK. Det
360's Klaus Bauer also found the
going just as rough. He rolled a
212 game and 579 set while his team
was dropping three to Public Works.
The Commissary took three from the
OPCON Chiefs and the Black Nights
did the same to IsComlce.
The International League was
not in action last week due to
Thanksgiving.
Record broken
Bowling a first-ever accomplish-
ment at the. Arctic Lanes was Mess
Management Specialist First Class
Bert Quintans.
MSI Quintans rolled the first
recorded sanctioned 700 series,
according to the Keflavik Bowling
Association.
He bowled a 708 series in the
Friday Night Mixed League on Nov.
17. His games were 221, 248 and
239.
Asked about his feat, the quiet
MSI from the Galley replied, "Lucky,
just plain lucky."
Lucky or not, he considers it a
once in a lifetime accomplishment.

Navy Goats
accept invite
The Naval Academy football team
has accepted an invitation to play
against Brigham Young University in
the first Holiday Bowl in San Diego,
Calif., on Dec. 22. Kick off time
is 6 p.m. local.
Although general admission tic-
kets for the game are already sold
out, tickets are still available
from the Naval Academy for $10 plus
$1 for postage and handling on each
order. Requests for tickets should
be sent to the Naval Academy, An-
apolis, Md., 21402.
Both Brigham Young and the Naval
Academy have identical 7-3 records
at this point in the season. Navy
will carry its record into the
Army-Navy game in Philidelphia, Pa.
on Dec. 2.

Radio - TV
The month of December starts off
with a bang in the Lone Star State.
The Texas A&M Aggies play host to
the Texas Longhorns in their season
finale. NBS radio, 1485 on your
dial, carries this game at 2 a.m.
Saturday.
Channel 4 also takes to the
gridiron Saturday with their tele-
vised coverage of the Southern Cal,
U-C-L-A battle. The Pac 10 title
rides on this one, that starts at
high noon.
Later in the day, the Army-Navy
battle takes place at Philidelphia.
NBS radio will carry this tradi-
tional clash at 9 p.m.
The pro slate kicks off Sunday's
entertainment at noon on Channel 4.
The San Diego Chargers, vying for a
wild-card spot, tangle with the
Minnesota Vikings in this encoun-
ter.
In the early evening, 6 p.m.,
radio starts their coverage of the
Miami Dolphins/Washington Redskins
game in J.F.K. Stadium. Immedi-
ately following this game, at
9 p.m., NBS radio takes us to Texas
where the Dallas Cowboys are play-
ing host to the New England Pa-
triots. A lot is riding here as
there are only two more games left
after this weekend.
Radio coverage continues with a
Monday morning, 2 a.m., battle in
the Bay aiea. The A-F-C Western
Conference lead hinges on the Den-
ver Broncos, Oakland Raiders slug-
fest.
Channel 4 brings you Monday
Night Football, with televised cov-
erage from the Houston Astrodome.
Here the Oilers entertain the Miami
Dolphins at 9:10 p.m.
Another weekend of coverage
comes to an end Tuesday morning at
2 a.m. in Southern California as
the San Diego Chargers play the
Chicago Bears.
