Austin leads the 57th over 960th, 4-0
Jim Austin rolled a 202 game and
549 series to lead the 57th FIS to
a 4-0 shutout win over league-lead-
ing 960th AWACSS Monday night in
the American League of intramural
bowling.
The loss by AWACSS cut their
lead to three games. Bob Fulwider
was high for the 960th with a 517
and Mike Luce added a 511.
NavFac moved into second place
with a 3-1 win over AIMD. Phil
Blauvelt provided the fire power
for the Fac with a 523 set.
Rounding out the rest of the
league, Food Service had four bowl-
ers break the 500 barrier as they
blanked IDF. Danny Nigdao led the
way with a 205 and 544. Dan Lefler
followed with a 540, Randy Ranz had
a 511 and Andy Morato followed with
a 201 and 505. Skip Groce was high
for IDF with a 550. Norm Bemis
started the night with seven in a
row and ended with a 239 game and
577 set as the Commissary tripped
Navy Broadcasting for three. Tony
Cuerpo added a 520 for the Commis-
sary while Joe Carlson's 213 and
535 led NBS. VP-23 was a 3-1 win-
ner over AFI behind Mike Harpley's
202 and 531 and Bill Robinson's
511. Paul Cozort was high for AFI
with a 522 and Jim Kearney added a
510. NavCommSta and Comptroller
ended the night in a draw. Mike
Varney rolled a 520 and Tim La-
Claire a 207 and 508 for CommSta
and Calvin Pauling had a 200 and
544 for Comptroller.
CommSta NRK continues to lead
the North Atlantic League. Monday
night they put three 500 sets to
use in downing IsComlce for three.
Dan Smith led the way with games
of 217 and 213 and a 567 series,
Vern Matteson followed with a 201
and 564 and Doug Drewry added a
519. Don Estes paced IsComlce with
a 547 and' Jim McKinley had a 514.
Second place Club Management
blanked NavFac #3 behind Juan Ca-
jipe's 508 while the Black Knights,
who are in third place, won three
from Comptroller #2 behind Ken
Shockey's 215 and 201 games and 588
set and Bob Shaffer's 203 and 521.
In remaining league play, Klaus
Bauer rolled a 512 as Public Works
won by forfeit from the Marines.
It is the second week in a row the
Marines have failed to field a
team. John Pecue had a 220 game
and 549 set and Bill Moore added a
510 as CFK blanked AIMD and Air
Ops and Supply II3 split their
match. Steve Buffington was high
for Ops with a 216 and 526 and
Billy Ohl had a 516. Pat Ponder's
525 was high for Supply.
In the National League, the Navy
Exchange won four from Supply #2
behind Ron Jurgenson's 503; Danny
Bushong rolled a 200 and 589 as
Medical blanked ComFairKef; CommSta
Admin shutout Recreation even
though Bert Quintans had a 222 and
565 for Recreation; Joe McGlynn's
201 and 536 were in vain as the
Supply Chiefs dropped three to AFI;
Don Logsdon's 209 and 213 games and
601 set led the IDF Chiefs to a 3-1
decision over Dental. Fred Urban
had a 202 and 537 for Dental. Rick
Browning had a 200 and 534 as the
57th FIS won four from the CFK
Chiefs. Jerry Dretsch was high for
CFK with a 502.
George Letke rolled a 233 and
567 and Jay Norris a 207 and 530 as
first place Specomm downed the
960th AWACSS for three in the In-
ternational League.
Rounding out the rest of the
league, Det. 14 blanked the Mat
Rats from NSGA behind Irv Stiff-
ler's 547, Jim Kyne's 513 and Jim
Boyd's 502. Mark Sobczak led the
Mat Rats with a 516. NavFac downed
the Marines for three with Ray
Thigpen leading the Fac and Gary
Basil pacing the Marines. Both
ended with 502 sets. Grindavik
shutout Public Works and Admin
blanked NSGA's Hot Rocks, despite
Ted Bonesteel's 228 and 502 for
NSGA. AFI and Navy Weather split
their match. Chuck Parker's 200
and 515 led AFI while Bob Plante
was high for NWSED with a 226 and
546.
