Parents’ time important to children
I'm sure that we all did our best
his past Christmas to get our
children the gifts they asked for
and I'm equally sure that we do our
best to provide them with good meals
as well as warm clothing and a bed
to sleep in.
All of these things are important
and necessary but even more impor-
tant is the time we give to them.
My husband and myself spend each
Saturday at the bowling alley to en-
joy watching our sons bowl as well
as to keep score. Week after week
we are consistantly disappointed
with the practically non-existent
involvement of other parents.
The Bantom A (11 a.m.) League and
Bantom B (i p.m.) League each re-
quire at least one adult scorekeeper
per two lanes of bowling. That con-
sists of two teams, with four mem-
bers per team. Now one would think
that it should be relatively easy to
get one parent per eight children to
keep score, but such is not the
case. This is especially true with
the Bantom A League.
Oh, I'm sure some parents will
read this and say, "Well it's the
only chance I have to go to the Com-
missary or exchange." But, I know
for a fact that there is plenty of
time left after bowling to make it
to these facilities.
So, come on parents, with four
'members per team you should only be
required to keep score once a month.
It's really not that difficult to
give two hours a month in support of
your child. Time is the greatest
gift that you can give your child-
ren. They'll know that you care e-
nough to be involved and believe me
they do notice. I over heard one
boy recently say to our son, "Gee
Mike, you're so lucky, your mom and
dad come every week."
Next Saturday don't just drop off
your children. Stick around and see
if your child's team is in need of a
scorekeeper or moral support.
Get involved! You might even en-
joy yourself. Remember, if you
can't find time for your children
now, someday they may not find time
for you. Think about it!
