AFI grabbed remaining slots
for Monday’s champ roll offs
The final berths for the upcoming
base bowling championship roll offs
have been decided.
AFI grabbed both the remaining
slots, one from the American League
and one in the National.
The roll offs are scheduled to
begin Monday at 6 p.m. and will be
held over a three day period. Nine
games will be bowled and total pins
will decide the winner.
The line up of teams vying for
the championship include: the 960th
AWACSS and AFI from the American
League; CommSta NRK and Club Manage-
ment from the North Atlantic; Medi-
cal and AFI from the National and
representing the International will
be Specomm and Det. 14.
In filling the last slot from the
American League Monday night, AFI
dropped the 57th FIS for four. Bruce
Michaelson's 263 and 245 games and
688 series led the awesome attack,
Bob Couturier followed with a 209
and 578, Jim Kearney had a 203 and
542 and Paul Pietruszewski was next
with a 523. Tom Debusk paced the
57th with a 532. In the National
League Tuesday night, AFI dropped
first place Medical for three to sew
up their berth for the roll off.
In the final week of action in
regular season play, first in the
American League, CommSta and AIMD
split their match, IDF shutout VP-23
behind Skip Groce's 246 and 578 and
Calvin Pauling had a 546 as Comp-
troller blanked Navy Broadcasting.
Don Phelps was high for NBS with a
514. The 960th wiped out Food Ser-
vice playoff hopes with a 3-1 vic-
tory. Ken Woodall was high with a
513 and John Wright added a 508 for
AWACSS and Danny Nigdao had a 502
for Food Service. NavFac won a 4-0
decision over the Commissary in the
remaining match. Phil Blauvelt led
the Fac with a 201 and 567, Bob Go-
din followed with a 516, Hal Cook
added his first ever league 500 set,
a 506 with a 204 game, and Mark Ro-
tunda had his first league 200, a
202.

In the North Atlantic League,
Club Management finally got the best
of CommSta NRK. They won a 3-1 de-
cision behind Edgardo Layug's 504
and Juan Cajipe's 503. The Black
Knights downed IsComlce for three
with Bob Shaffer's 215 and 529 lead-
ing the way. Harris Hutto added a
508, Dud Hueber a 501 and Jim Ver-
tussi had a 215 game. Ed Sibel's
524 lifted CFK to a 4-0 decision
over Public Works; Dan Shea had a
211 and 510 as Comptroller finished
the season on a winning note, taking
four from the Marines; AIMD dropped
NavFac for three behind Nick Nas-
sar's 519 and Dave Baker's 508 and
Supply #3 and Air Ops split. Tom
Clark had a 216 and 516 for Supply
and Billy Ohl a 211 and 511 for Air
Ops.
In Tuesday night's National Lea-
gue, Jim Beard rolled a 520 and Timm
Herdt a 204 and 502 as ComFairKef
tripped Dental for three. Fred Ur-
ban was high for Dental with a 202^^^^
and 513. Tony Kelley had a 202 gam^^^^f
in the Navy Exchange's 3-1 win over^^V
the CFK Chiefs. Van Sullivan topped
CFK with a 506. Bob Dixon's 214 and
201 games and 587 and Rick Brown-
ing's 203 and 533 led the 57th FIS
Good Guys to a 3-1 win over CommSta
Admin. Mike Grissinger was high for
CommSta with a 226 game and 543 set.
Bert Quintans' 514 and Bud Farling's
500 were enough for Recreation to
take three from Supply #2 and the
Supply Chiefs downed the IDF Chiefs
for three. Doris McGlynn led the
Supply CPOs with a 210 and 532 while
Perry Boren's 214 and 527 was high
for IDF.
In the International League,
NSGA's Mat Rats shutout Public
Works; Gary Basil had a 509 as the
Marines beat Navy Weather for three;
Tim Croce rolled a 221 and 543 as
Admin split with AWACSS and Det. 14
made the roll offs with a 3-1 win
over Specomm. Jim Kyne topped Det.
14 with a 571, Dale Cook followed
with a 222 and 550 and Irv Stiffler
had a 200 and 500. AFI blanked
Grindavik behind Chuck Parker's 211
and 203 games and 593 set. Chuck
Gray followed with a 203 and 526 and
Darwin Ray had a 506. Tom Andrews
rolled three 200 games (202, 202 and
204) and a 608 set as the NSGA Hot^fl^k
Rocks blanked NavFac. Ted Bonestee^^^^P
and Mike Stasiak had 520 sets fo^^^^r
NSGA and Stasiak also had a 210.
