Keflavik, Iceland Casualty plan used for real Photo by PIT3 Fdward The Keflavik Airport Mass Casual- ty plan, still fresh in mind from an initial testing May 29, was put into effect'for real Wednesday evening. An inbound Icelandair Fokker Friendship made a successful two- point landing with 19 persons aboard shortly after 8 p.m. There were no injuries. The Reykjavik-Westman Islands aircraft was experiencing difficulty with its landing gear and was di- verted to Keflavik when the malfunc- tion was discovered. The casualty plan was put into effect while the plane was enroute. The Fire Department and crash crews foamed the runway and medical per- sonnel were alerted and standing by if needed. The aircraft's left landing gear would not go down and the pilot was not sure.if the right gear was lock- ed in its extended position. Short- ly after 8 p.m. the Friendship land- ed on a thoroughly foamed jrpnwry and as the craft slowed it veered left off the runway and stopped with its wing supporting the left side of the aircraft. The 16 passengers and three crew- members were safe. But if they had needed help it was there. Lt. Col. Mordan assumes command In ceremonies held June 17 in the Andrews Theater, Lt. Col. Charles R. Mordan took command of the 57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron reliev- ing Lt. Col. John H. Carpenter who will become the Air Forces Iceland Deputy Commander for Operations. Lt. Col. His first and second tours with the "Black Knights" were the usage of the F-102 Delta Dagger aircraft. For his third tour he has transi- tioned into the F-4C Phantom II air craft. It is rare for a single squadron to figure so prominently in an offi- ceji^career as the 57th Fighter In- :fl H01' Squadron has played for i| B. Mordan. He has gone from a nev Lieutenant through all levels of the squadron and Air Forces Ice- land organization to his position of command. IN CEREMONIES recently held in the Andrews Theater, Lt. Col.
