Vacation Bible school begins soon
Arctic Circle trip
The NATO Base Chapel is spon-
soring a Vacation Bible School
July 14-18 and 21-25 at the ele-
mentary school (lower) school for
children three years old through
Jr. High age. The ten day school
will have classes from 1:30 - 3:30
p.m. daily, using the theme of
"God's Happy People." Daily les-
son topics will be reinforced by
songs, activities, and coordinated
arts and crafts. Additionally,
for convenience daily bus service
will be provided to and from school.
Materials have been received to
enable 430 children to attend.
Registration will be conducted on
a first come, first served basis

In recent ceremonies held at Ice-
land Defense Force (IDF) Headquar-
ters, Col. Glen R. Connally, Chief
of Staff, IDF, cited three personnel
who were: PN1 Wanda R. Lady, YNC
James W. Faulkner, and YN1 Gus Car-
rion.
PN1 Wanda Lady was awarded the
Joint Service Commendation Medal for
exceptionally meritorious service
from Aoril 1977 to March 1980 while
serving as Personnelman in the of-
fice of the Assistant Chief of
Staff, Personnel and Administration,
Headquarters Iceland Defense Force.

in the Navy Exchange Lobby.
The annual Vacation Bible School
is a large undertaking, requiring
many persons participation in a
wide variety of jobs to ensure it
it running smoothly. Volunteers
(including teenagers) are still
needed to serve as teachers' aides,
helpers with refreshments, transpor-
tation coordinators, and registra-
tion and attendance monitors.

speak with those at the pupil regis-
tration table tomorrow or call Dor-
een Wilcox at 4015, Julie Benedum at
4451, or the Base Chapel at 4111/
4211.
Carrion honored
Petty Officer Lady's outstanding
professionalism, initiative, and re-
sourcefulness contributed signifi-
cantly to the accomplishment of the
Force's mission.
YNC Faulkner was awarded his
third Good Conduct Medal, and he
works in the Administrative section
of IDF.
YN1 Gus Carrion was promoted to
his present rank, and he works with
the Logistics section of IDF.
Family and friends of the above
personnel attended the ceremonies.

yields 'Blue Noses’
The "Blue Nose" is the designs
tion bestowed on those who travel
to, or beyond 66° 32' 33" north la-
titude. More popularly known as the
Arctic Circle, it marks the limit of
the north frigid zone.
Despite the fact that Patrol
Squadron 46 (VP-46) "Blue Noses" are
fast becoming the majority at Kefla-
vik, a handful of "Grey Knights" ac-
quired their designation from the
truest sense of the term.
With Cmdr. Mike Knosky, Command-
ing Officer VP-46, on board and un-
der the skillful guidance Lt. Cmdr.
Jim Falls, Co-pilots Lt. Steve Sheg-
rud and Lt. Jerry Bryndal, Lt.jg
Larry Hardwig, Ens. Brad Norgart,
AEC Bob Stanish and AME1 Jeff Hami-
lton, VP-46 conducted a reenlistment
ceremony for AK2 Jeff Smith while
transiting across the North Pole
during a Polar Navigational Training
Flight. Also recently on this
flight this crew of "Grey Knights"
performed the ultimate "Mark on Top"
...the top of the world.
Accompanying the flight crew dur-
