CNO visits NATO Base
Admiral Thomas B. Hayward, Chief of Naval Operations, talks with Ensign
Glenn Xing, Officer in Charge of Navy Broadcasting, Detachment Eight.
Topics discussed during the interview included the 11.77* pay increase.
"I t's a great step forward for military menbers," Admiral Hayward said.
!,It shews that we are getting good support from Congress. The raise
doesn't match the inflation rate, but it's a good start." About the im-
plementation of the LDO flight program, Admiral Hayward said, "It was done
because of a basic shortage of pilots, and because it's a good opportunity
for enlisted menbers." Admiral Hayward concluded the interview by ex-
plaining that the recruit rate is 100% due to high unemployment in the
States, concern about the national security, patriotism, and improving
military benefits.
