Natural beauty abounds
As the local tour season draws
to a close we can take the opportun-
ity to reflect on the many places we
visited. Next year v;e may take ad-
vantage of the tour office again or
head out on our own in this beau-
tiful and rugged country.
Of course Reykjavik, capital of
Iceland and a major city of more
than 80,000 people, is the city we
visited on our orientation tour.
This city is a center for
culture and entertainment and can
provide many hours of activity for
those interested in pursuing their
interests in this country.
Thingvellir is east of Reykjavik
and the oldest parliament in the
world, Althing, was founded there.
Thingvallavatn is the largest lake
in Iceland.
Hvalfjordur is a fjord between
Reykjavik and Akranes, a fishing
port north of this nation's capital.
This fjord is the home of Iceland's
single whaling station.
Other places of interest are:
Heldmork, a public park east of
Reykjavik; Gullfoss, a beautiful
waterfall; Skalholt; Laugarvatn;
Dyrholaey; Skogafoss; Skogar; Sand-
gerdi, and many other sights both
near and far from Keflavik.
