Everyone wants success. Success
means many things. It means one
thing to an oil worker in Oklahoma;
something different to a typist in
New York; and still something else
to a sailor. Yet, there are ele-
ments of success which are the same
for everyone.
For example: everyone wants to
go as far as their abilities can
take them. Everyone wants to make
more money; more specifically they
want the many good things that
money will bring—comfortable home,
good food, fine clothing, a new car,
interesting vacations and security
for the future.
Everyone wants a career that is
interesting and brings the respect
and admiration of their friends and
co-workers. But, only one person in
five has the drive, determination,
ambition and perserverence to
achieve success.
People who spend their lives day-
dreaming of a better job or a big
raise will never succeed. They
never try to make those dreams come
true. The type of individual that
always complains he can't get ahead
because he never gets the "breaks"
doesn't get ahead.
You have taken your first step
toward building a real career—a
Navy career. Now you must follow
this step with action. You must
set your goals and stay with them
in order to achieve success. You
can be the one in five.
Now that you have read this,
remember one thing: there is one
employer who will train you in
whichever field you choose, and pay
you while you learn. That's not
all. You will have a job after com-
pleting training. You will also
have fringe benefits beyond your
widest expectations and guaranteed
paths of promotion. The employer is
the Navy. Call your Command Career
Counselor—plan your career.
