September 18, 1981 White Falcon 3 New at the Library There is something for everyone in the fiction books received at the Station Library. John Jay Osborn, author of The Paper Chase, has written a new novel about high finance on Wall Street, The Man Who Owned New York (F/Osb). Science fiction fans will cele- brate the arrival of Frank Herbert's God Emperor of Dune (SF/Her). Other new science fiction titles include The Cool War (SF/Poh) by Frederik Po’nl, The Claw of the Conciliator (SF/Wol) by Gene Wolf, and Analog1s Golden Anniversary Anthology (SF/ (SC)Sell). For those who like to be scared to death, there is 666 (F/Ans) by Jay Anson, author of The Amityville Horror. David Shobin's thriller The Unborn (F/Sho) is the story of an unborn child plotting to kill even its own mother. The main character of Small World (F/Kin) is an unbalan- ced woman whose passion is dollhouses and who wants real people to live in them. This is the first novel of Tabitha King, wife of best-selling author Stephen King. For those who like westerns, there are Disaster Creek (W/Ben) by Dwight Bennett; The Man They Hanged (W/Ste) by Robert Steelman; Buffalo Medicine (W/Col) by Don Goldsmith; and The Partners (W/Red) by Robert Redding. Suspenseful novels of international intrigue are always in demand. Two new ones at the Library are XPD (F/Dei) by Len Deighton and The Para- chutists (F/Kle) by Edward Klein. BOOST applications due soon Completed applications for the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Pro- gram must reach the Chief of Naval Education and Training no later than December 1. The program is designed to in- sure that officer training oppor- tunities are open to persons who may be educationally or financi- ally deprived but have demonstra- ted they possess the qualities necessary for careers as naval officers. The program, which pre- pares selected applicants for the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) or to compete for entry into the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) is open to all eligible Navy enlisted personnel. Prospective NROTC Scholarship Program applicants shall not have reached their 21st birthday by March 31, 1982. Candidates with active service in the Armed Forces prior to entering BOOST School may be granted a waiver on a month-for- month basis up to a maximum of 27 months. Prospective USNA candi- dates shall not have passed their 21st birthday on July 1, 1982; shall have no dependents; and shall be unmarried. A certified copy of Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores, current within one year, must be included in the application package. Since it takes four to six weeks to ob- tain test results, early registra- tion and testing are essential. An applicant who is not a high school graduate may apply and, if accepted, obtain a high school cer- tificate during participation in BOOST. Application procedures are out- lined in BUPERS Manual, Article 1020360. Interested personnel are encouraged to contact their Career Counselor or Educational Services Officer. The December 1st deadline must be met to be considered for the buOST class beginning June 1982. Dinner theatre returns with 'Dust’ Dinner theatre returns to the base with the Players production of "Dust" to be presented at the Rock- ville Club on Saturday, at the Officer's Club on September 25 and 26, and at the Top of the Rock on October 4. A special Public Works' bus will be provided Saturday for the per- formance in Rockville. The bus leaves the Viking Mall at 6:15 p.m. and the USO at 6:30 p.m. The bus will return to the base at 10:30 p.m. The five stories in this successful production deal with unusual subjects in the realm of terror often with comical overtones. All tickets and information are available at each club. The show is not recommended, for young children. The dinner is prime rib at all clubs. LT and Mrs. James McCutcheon are the parents of a daughter, Kelsey Elizabeth, born August 27. RM1 and Mrs. Richard St. John II are the parents of a son, Joshua Seth, born August 27. SSgt. Harold and Sgt. Roberta Atkins are the parents of a daugh- ter, Jeri Ann, born August 28. ET2 and Mrs. Philip Miller are the parents of a daughter, Laurie Beth, born August 31. Rec Fund meets Tuesday The Composite Recreation Fund Council Meeting will be held on September 22 in the NavSta Con- ference Room at 1:30 p.m. All designated command representatives are required to attend. ID card change may affect you Do your dependents need new ID cards? Recent changes to Air Force Regulation 30-20 requires the CBP0 to verify the marriage certificate for spouses and birth certificates for children prior to issuing a ID card application. Be sure to have these certificates in your posses- sion when reporting to your CBPO. ‘Dust’ Dick and. Margaret Dziurdzik act out a scene from one of the stories in the Players’ production of Dust, which opens tomorrow at Rockville.
