father and son cockroach were safely hidden
behind the sugar bowl. From there, they
saw a little girl and boy human playing in
the kitchen.
"Look, Dad, they turned the burner on
under that pan of grease," said Dink.
Rinky said "That will surely start a
fire if it is left on."
Dink cried out "Oh, no, they just lit a
candle with some matches!"
Rinky replied "They will set the house
on fire if they do not put it out."
Then Dink watched as the little girl
pushed a frayed cord into an outlet. The
cord started to smoke as the toaster button
was pushed down. Dink looked up at his
father and said, "Dad, maybe it is time for
us to find a safer home to live in?"
"I agree," said the father, "let's go
pack our bags."
Operation EDITH was conducted in family
housing areas on Wednesday, October 12.
Fire Department officials estimate that ap-
proximately 90 percent of the families oc-
cupying government quarters participated in
the event.
In addition to all of the above, Navy
Broadcasting Service provided substantial
amounts of public service time on both radio
and television in support of the Fire Pre-
vention theme. Daily reminders were pub-
lished in the Naval Station plan of the

Tour Office notes
The Tour Office has tickets available for
the November 3 performance of the Icelandic
Symphony Orchestra. Soloist will be Per
Hannisdal on the bassoon and the conductor
will be Jean-Pierre Jacquillat.
They will also sponsor a shopping trip
to Reykjavik on Veterans' Day. The bus will
leave from the Viking Mall and stop at sev-
eral places for your shopping pleasure.
Don't miss thes chance to get all of your
Christmas shopping done early.
A trip to London is scheduled for over
the Thanksgiving weekend. The trip leaves
Keflavik at 5 p.m., November 23, and returns
November 27th. Included in the price is
airfare, transfer to and from the hotel,
accommodations and continental breakfast.
Seats are limited.
Also several other travel packages are
offered. Weekend packages to Copenhagen,
Glasgow, Amsterdam and London are available.
Luxembourg Packages include hotel and/or
car rental for a weekend of one week. Sev-
eral packages are available for travel in

Halloween story hour
On Saturday at 10 a.m. there will be a
special Preschool Halloween Storyhour at
the Station Library. All you Halloween
goblins, ghosts and superheroes from 3-5
years of age, gather around our special
Storyteller to hear tales of Halloween
night. Wear your costume and join us in
listening to some wonderful stories about
very special Halloween characters. For

Remember that the minimum blood alcohol
content (BAC) level for which you can be
found guilty of DWI in Iceland is .060.
This compares to most state requirements of
.10 or higher. All convictions for DWI are
reported to the state issuing your license.
The above individuals have lost their Ice-
land (off-base) driving privileges from two
to 12 months. In addition they have lost
their privilege of driving a private auto
or a government vehicle on any military in-
stallation, worldwide, for a 12 month
period of time.

News from the gym
Last Saturday the base championship
tournament between the top four intramural
football teams was held. The final scores
were: NCS 37, AFI/SP 13; PW 13, Commissary
/Comptroller 2. In the final game Public
Works squeaked by NCS with a score of 13 to
12 for the base championship. Congratula-
tions Public Works. The games were held
at the football field.
All basketball rosters must be in by
the close of business tomorrow. Sche-
dules can be picked up by close of business
Tuesday. The season will start next Satur-
day at 9:30 a.m.
The gym now has Kempo Karate classes
available. Classes are held on Tuesday and
Thursday nights from 6-8 p.m. There is
also a class held on Saturday from 9-11 a.m.
for children under 16.
Personnel interested in running in a
half marathon (13.1 miles) tomorrow at 10
a.m. may sign up at the base gym prior to
starting time. For more information on any
of these programs contact the gym.
Holy Day masses
November 1 is a Holy Day of Obligation
for all Roman Catholics, in honor of All
Saints Day. The following is the Mass
schedule for the holyday celebrations.
October 31: 7 p.m.
November 1: 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
November 2: 7 p.m. in the Blessed Sacra-
ment Chapel in honor of All Souls Day.
