Hamborgarabúlla Tómasar
Hamborgarabúllan is that grey, teardrop-
shaped wee building down by the harbour on
the corner of Geirsgata and Ægisgata. Inside
the small dining area, the high stables and
bar stool seating, the posters of upcoming
events plastered on the walls, and the sharing
of newspapers and The Biggest Pub Jokes
Ever (both Volumes I and II), all make the
atmosphere just as one should expect from a
friendly burger joint in a small harbour town.

The Coocoo's Nest
Nestled in an old fishing hut in the flourishing
area of Grandi is a Californian deli with an
Italian twist. What is a Californian deli? You’ll
have to pay them a visit to find out. The own-
ers, Íris and Lucas, have put much thought
and work into every square inch of the place,
creating a cosy and warm atmosphere. If you
are in that part of town, head over to get your
brunch or lunch fill of the day.

Pioneering New Nordic Kitchen-style cuisine
in Iceland, Dill Restaurant very quickly gained
status as a Reykjavík favourite, which it con-
tinues to live up to. Using fresh and classic
Nordic ingredients exclusively, Dill offers a

their short and simple lunchtime menu or the

Argentína Steakhouse
Argentína is the best place in the world for a
red meat-loving person to have a special
celebration. One of the oldest steak houses
in town, it has worked hard to earn its name
and has never wavered from its carnivorous
appetite.

this old-timey coffee house is something

Micro Bar sits snuggled up behind the lobby
of City Center Hotel and offers Reykjavík’s
best selection of microbrew beers, served by
knowledgeable and polite staff. This is one of
the few bars in Reykjavík where you can have
a conversation with your mates without hav-
ing to shout over live bands or loud music.

Public Transport
The only public transport available in Reykjavík
is the bus. Most buses run every 20–30 minutes
(the wait may be longer on weekends) and the
price per fare is 350 ISK for adults and children.
Multiple day passes are available for purchase at
select locations. Complete route map available

07:00–24:00 on weekdays and 10:00–24:00 on
weekends. Main terminals are: Hlemmur and
Lækjartorg.
Opening Hours
Bars and clubs: According to regulations,
bars can stay open until 01:00 on weekdays and
04:30 on weekends.
Shops: Mon–Fri 10:00–18:00, Sat 10:00–16:00,
Sun closed. The shopping centres Kringlan and
Smáralind as well as most supermarkets and
tourist shops have longer opening hours.
Swimming pools: Weekdays 06:30–22:00 and
weekends 09:00–17:00, although each pool
varies plus or minus a few hours.
Banks in the centre are open Mon-Fri 09:00-
16:00.
Post Offices
Post offices are located around the city. The
downtown post office is at Pósthússtræti 3–5,
open Mon–Fri 09:00–18:00. Stamps are also
sold at bookstores, gas stations, tourist shops
and some grocery stores.

Right on the corner where Austurstræti meets
Ingolfstorg sits the cosy and colourful Shali-
mar restaurant. One of Reykjavík's culinary
landmarks, Shalimar has been dishing out
spicy Northern Pakistani and Indian cuisine
since 2001. Shalimar is a great place to treat
yourself to some of the best South-Asian
cooking Reykjavík has to offer, the tandoori
nan bread is especially tasty.
