Pool to reopen today after extensive renovations
By JOI Howard Watters
The base swimming pool
reopens today after several
weeks of extensive renovations
at a cost of $42,000, according
to Naval Air Station, Commanding
Officer, Captain George T.
Lloyd.
Capt. Lloyd was on hand
Monday to open the main valve to
allow some 227,000 gallons of
water to flow into the recently
renovated pool. The pool has
been under repairs to replace
broken tiles, reline seams and
make additional minor fixtures.
"There has been a lot of
concern about the pool since it is
one of the more popular spots in
the gym," the captain added.

New instruction affects parents and care providers
By JOI Howard Watters
A recently circulated Naval Air Station Keflavik
Instruction (NASKEFINST 5100.7A), contains items
of particular interest to parents of the local DoD
Elementary School here in Iceland.
One of the more specific items of concern to NATO
Base residents is the reference to the
responsibilities of parents in regards to the use of
government provided transportation. The new
instruction outlines specific policy effecting parents
and care providers to DoD student's conduct, safety
and supervision while using government
transportation. The instruction also outlines the
duties and responsibilities of school bus monitors.
In general, the new instruction extends the
responsibilities of all DoD School associated
personnel, parents and bus monitors. Included in
the following list is a summary of some of the bus
monitor's duties and related responsibilities:
• They will board their assigned buses at the
location designated by the bus monitor supervisor
and remain on the bus until it has completed it's
scheduled run.
• Ensure that students are dropped off at
assigned bus stops.
• Watch for children who are late leaving their
quarters and are attempting to catch their bus.
