Explore Iceland and the great outdoors by Chaplain (Maj. ) Jim Sands For months a dozen people have planned and developed a unique way to explore Iceland. It's called the Outdoor Adventure Program. Some of the activities are for teens, some for singles, and some for families. While most of the activities are quite easy, several are for the real expert in skiing, mountaineering, hiking, and winter camping. All the trips are designed to be as inexpensive as possible (most are $1 payable to the driver for gasoline). Because entire families would probably not want to ski, climb, and rappel, the nature of these aspects of the program apply primarily to single or unaccompanied people. A number of survival experts and other leaders with outdoor skills will participate. This exciting off-base recreation is possible because of a large pool of volunteer drivers and a corps of committed outdoorsmen. But there's room for more. If you would like to volunteer an auto contact Chaplain Jim Sands at 4111. It isn't necessary that your vehicle be four wheel drive, sedans and vans are fine. A complete schedule of the trips for the Outdoor Adventure Program can be picked up at the Chapel. If you want a real opportunity for something fast-paced and different, this is the program. We are asking for your cooperation to help prevent burglary and to help you Identify your valuables If you are a victim. You can borrow an engraver from either Naval Air Station Security (Bldg. T-790), or Air Forces Iceland Security (Bldg. 735) for a period of 48 hours at a time, to engrave your name, and social security number on your bicycles, stereos, tools, microwaves, cameras or any other item of value. Operation ID leaflets will soon be distributed to assist you in keeping track of the serial numbers of your valuables. You simply write the serial number on the Operation ID form then keep It In a safe place with your other important documents. After you have done this, if any of your property gets lost or stolen, and is recovered, it can be readily identified and returned to you.
