Kef la vlk's Volunteer Leo Munro This week's Keflavlk Volunteer 1s Leo Munro vho volunteers his time at the USO as host of the “Leo Munro Trivia Show", which has been running since 1979. He also organized the base Badminton Club. Leo works at A.T. Mahan High School as the Host Nation Coordinator and teaches the Studies of Iceland to 7-12 graders. “I actually volunteer to please myself,” the white bearded Welshman said, ’and it's a coincidence if people like to do what I do. I sort of see myself as a paid volunteer, because I spread my high school duties all over the base." Leo also helps people plan trips around Iceland and is willing to guide a trip, just a3 long as his expenses are paid for. In fact, Leo guided some high schoolers around Iceland last summer. "I appreciate the support I've received from the USO, high school, local media and others,” Leo said. "Their support has made it easier to be a volunteer.- Leo has lived in Iceland since 1958 and ;3 married to Irmy Toft of Reykjavik. They have a son, Markus and two daughters, Brynja and Idunn. avy Relief Drive starts today by Lt. Cmdr. Tony Prince The 1988 Navy Relief Fund Drive kicks off today throughout the NATO base. This year's campaign will run through Friday May 27 culminating with a drawing for a brand new 1988 Fiat Ritmo 70S. The fund drive begins with a raffle which runs until noon on Friday May 20. Tickets will be sold by "key representatives" from NAS departments and all Navy tenant commands, including the Marine Barracks. Volunteers will also be out and about selling tickets at the Navy Exchange and various locations around the base. Tickets are $1.00 each and may be purchased with cash, check, money order, and the preferred method for active duty Navy personnel, allotment. The raffle is open to all U.S. military DoD employees, U.S. citizens and their dependents. There is no limit on the number of tickets which may be purchased. There are also many other exciting prizes to be given away besides- the grand prize automobile. Look for more information on those wonderful gifts. The drawing (ull be held during Newsline at 5:30 p.m. May 27. |Mediqthon '88 will wrap up the Fund Drive with n audio/visual extravaganza designed to encourage participation by every member of the NATO base. Scheduled to run May 20-27, it plans to be a tremendously entertaining week filled with fun, laughter, and surprises. Organizations and individuals will be able to make pledges to have their favorite songs aired on NBS radio, or to “bump" other songs off the air. Special guest3 are expected to visit the studios of NBS and participate in many other activities which Lt. Barker and the crew have already planned. Mediathon '88 should prove to be a fun and memorable event for the entire base. Many athletic events, tournaments, and special MWR related activities are also scheduled for the entire month of May in celebration of the 1988 Navy Relief Fund Drive. Keep your eyes posted for advertisements and announcements for all the upcoming events. If you can't find something fun and exciting this year, during the Navy Relief Fund Drive month, you aren't looking. Get involved, have fun, and volunteer.
