They perform this feat daily in relaying messages from the Defense Early Warning (DEW) Line stations. Dye-5 has been in existence as a communication station 3ince 1960. It was originally built to terminate the DYE Sector of the DEW Line, and at the same time, begin the North Atlantic Radio Section (NARS) section of communication. This NARS section comprises five 3ites located in Iceland, England and West Germany. In 1962, the prime mission of DYE-5 became twofold. First, to provide for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) through NARS, and secondly, to connect the radar sites at Hofn and Rockville into the DEW line of communication. Since DYE-5 does not maintain any form of radar equipment, they do not originate early warning messages. Their prime purpose is to relay all signals received from radar stations on the NARS V- ■Mi/ wmMu/ MauMm liswww mwsi; ?.r?M3ga^ 6 The White Falcon
