x? Youth baseball
registration to
end tomorrow
by Maj. James R. Loring, President
Keflavik Youth Athletic Association
The Keflavik Youth Athletic Association (KYAA)
began its registration drive on Saturday, April 16
for Tee-Ball and Minor League baseball players. It
vas very successful, with 132 children signing up.
However, the last day to register your children will
be tomorrow at the P.T.S.O. Bazaar. In addition,
there will be registration for dependent youths
between the ages of 13 and 19 who are interested in
playing softball in a league of their own or
participation in the Intramural "B“ League.
The baseball and softball league seasons will
start in the first week of June. Before that time
however, there will be a lot of activity in
preparation for the season. Coach and umpire clin-
ics will be held. Next, practice sessions for the
different age groups will be held in order to get an
indication of individual skill levels.
The teams will then be made up using this
information, in order to make them a3 evenly
matched as possible. Once the teams are finally
made up, more practices can be held before the
upcoming season starts.
The KYAA still needs volunteers for numerous
jobs and duties. Anyone interested in coaching or
umpiring can contact the KYAA baseball commis-
sioner, Tom VanCleef, at 7488 DWH, president, Jim
Loring, at 6523 DWH, or the vice president, Chuck
Cormier, at 4491 DWH.
The KYAA is made up of parents and other
interested adults with the commonly held goal of
ensuring that the youth of Keflavik have the
opportunity to learn the basic skills required for
their favorite sports and still have fun doing it.
Sportsmanship and participation are the corner-
stones of The KYAA's bylaws. Because we want as
many children as possible to participate, regis-
tration fees are kept low and the difference made
up by fund-raising and command sponsorships.
