NAVFAC awarded Battle "E
Naval Facility Keflavik (NAVFAC) was recently
awarded the Commander, Oceanographic System
Atlantic Battle "E" for 1988. This means that of six
Naval Facilities in the Atlantic region, NAVFAC
Keflavik was judged to have the highest level of
operational readiness in the performance of daily
operations and simulated wartime conditions.
NAVFAC has frequently been a test bed for new
equipment and is responsible for one of the most
challenging ocean areas.
The Battle "E" measures the full gamut of a
command's readiness. Operations are at the heart,
but certainly the NAVFAC's maintenance,
dministrative, supply and physical security
personnel played an important role in support
the operations.
"Only teamwork can achieve an award
prestigious as the Battle *E“ from a type
commander," Commander Diane Oliver,
commanding officer of NAVFAC, said. "It took
tremendous individual effort, self sacrifice,
teamwork and dedication to the mission by each
member of the command.
"I would also like to recognize the Keflavik
community which, through the support provided,
contributed to NAVFAC's success. They have played
a bit part in NAVFAC winning the Battle "E" for the
last two years.
