Team Handball
team plays
Sunday at 2 p.m.
NATO Base residents will have the oppor-
tunity to see one of the world’s fastest indoor
athletic contests when the U. S. Olympic
Handball Team re-visits the A. E. House
Gymnasium to plan an Icelandic national team
Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
According to Dan Bamthouse, Recreational
Division Manager, the gym can seat approxi-
mately 300 people. You may want to arrive at
the gym a few minutes early to ensure yourself
a seat.
The U. S. team arrived Wednesday and will
reside and train on the base through Nov. 26.
In addition to the national game between the
U. S. and Iceland, theU. S. Olympic Team will
travel throughout the greater Reykjavik area,
playing matches against local team handball
clubs.
Residents are encouraged to see their train-
ing drills most mornings in the gym, and to
attend Sunday’s game to cheer on Team USA.
Keflavi'k Icebreakers host international swim meet

The Keflavi'k Youth Athletic Associa-
tion swim team, the Keflavi'k Icebreakers,
competed against swimmers fromKeflavik,
Njardvik and Sandgerdi areas for the first
time during an international swim meet at
the base pool last Saturday.
According to Tim Tadlock, a KYAA
coach, approximately 120 swimmers par-
ticipated. Forty-seven were from the Ice-
breakers “A” and “B” teams; 20 were from
Njardvik’s UMFN team; 46 came from
Keflavik; and another eight came from
Sandgerdi.
“The overall swim meet went really well.
The swimmers experienced competition
they otherwise wouldn’t get against the
Icelanders.”

Sue Barber, who organized the Icebreak-
ers, hopes that the swim team will be in-
vited to participate in Icelandic swim meets.
