The White Falcon - 29.11.1991, Side 2
The White Falcon Insider
Say, yesterday was Thanksgiving and boy did I eat
too much! How about you? I guess I’ll see you over
at the gym or pool trying to work off a few pounds so
we can have room for the Christmas goose and
eggnog in the upcomming weeks.
Word has it that a couple of weeks ago when we
had our first major snow there were a number of
children of all ages sledding on base. The prime
location was an area called “dead man’s hill.” Did
you know that dispite the somewhat unofficial name
for the location, it is an accurate one. The story goes
that a nine-year-old died there a number of years ago.
The area can be fun, as well it should. No one
wants to spoil the fun for the kids, but there needs to
be a lot more participation by parents. If your kids are
going to be up there go with them and supervise.
There were a fair number of kids taken to medical for
treatment of one kind or another because of careless-
ness on someone’s part.
On another area, did you know that there have been
some changes at the base with some of the Icelandic
companies that offer services. A couple of weeks ago
a second car insurance company opened at the Air
Terminal. In addition to the Taxi Stand insurance
agent, you can now choose, and did you know that
you are not restricted to only them. You can also go
out in town or Reykjavik for all that matters. I wish
I knew this when I got here.
Also, there is a new owner for the bakery. He’s a
bright, young entrepreneur who is making some
changes to try to serve the public better - like opening
on Saturdays and Sundays and taking special request
orders.
Speaking about special requests. When you are
having parties and get togethers over the next month
please don’t forget the men and women on watch. At
any time there are quite a few. So order up some extra
food and surprise them!
Single people count too! Word has it that some of
the single and unaccompanied people at the base
don’t feel that The White Falcon meets their needs.
Well not so, says an insider. If you have a topic you
want to see covered call ext. 4612.
Also some guy the other night stopped me to com-
plain that “Why wasn’t my award in the paper? I said,
I don’t know, did your unit or command PAO or
Admin. Officer submit it to us. Wedon’treadminds!
Same thing goes for other happenings. We share
a lot of information with the folks at NBS but if you
don’t call the photo lab for photos, guess what? No
guarantee that they’ll know about it. And no guaran-
tee that it will show up in the newspaper.
This just in... I understand that Burt the Milkshake
is in love with Spagetti Os and that there will be a rush
on them at the Commissary. Stock up now.
Until next time, the Insider.
