Shipmates helping shipmates
relief fund to start in May
By LT Jeanne Binder
NMCRS Fund Drive Chairman
The 1993 Navy and Marine Corps Relief
Society (NMCRS) Fund Drive will begin
Monday on Naval Air Station (NAS),
Keflavik, and will end June 5. This is an
opportunity to support the organization that
helps fellow shipmates in need.
Last year alone, NMCRS gave more than
$80,000 of financial assistance to needy
personnel at NAS Keflavik. Eighty-nine
percent of the assistance was given as inter-
est-free loans and the remaining 11 percent
as grants.
One hundred percent of all contributions
go directly to people in need. Many person-
nel coming to NAS Keflavik seek assistance
from NMCRS when they first arrive here be-
cause of the high cost of auto insurance and
inspections.
There are numerous activities being
planned to raise money for the fund. A grand

to Icelandic Law No. 6-1926 - Icelandic
nationals are prohibited from participating in
the raffle.)
There is no limit on the number of tickets
that may be purchased. The raffle tickets cost
one dollar each. Each dollar will be donated
to NMCRS. Money used to purchase raffle
tickets is not considered a tax deductible
contribution. These can be made through
allotments or cash donations (check and
money orders payable to NMCRS accepted).
