uty type changes open opportunities for overseas sailors
ashington, D.C. (NNS) — Sailors at overseas duty stations will see a change in their
sea/shore rotation as the Navy redefines type six shore duty and redesignates type three
shore duty.
The definition of type six duty will transition from preferred overseas shore duty to
overseas duty (Neutral). It will count as neutral duty, stopping the shore credit counter
during such duty. Following a type six (N) tour, service members will rotate to the type
duty they were eligible for prior to their overseas assignment.
The definition of type three duty will remain as an overseas duty credited as sea duty
for rotational purposes. Type three activities include Italy, A dak, Bahrain, Korea, Diego
Garcia, Panama Canal, Guam, Portugal, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Souda Bay, Crete and
Iceland. All other current type three and type six overseas duty will revert to type six (N)
duty. Call the Personnel Support Detachment at ext. 2116 to find out more.
Air Force uniform board changes
Washington, D. C. (AFNS) — As part of the dress and appearance changes approved by
the Air Force Uniform Board, Air Force people using two-line name tags have until Oct
31 to delete the second line of their name tag.
The board deleted authorization for two-line name tags from Air Force Regulation 35-
10. No exceptions will be made to the policy, board officials said. In addition, they said
unit operations and maintenance funds would not cover replacement costs, so members
must replace the two-line name tags with standard tags at their own expense.
More information is available from the Air Force Military Personnel Flight Customer
Service Section. Call ext. 2694.

LyteBytes: Pentecost
By Chaplain Leslie Cola^o
The Greek word for Pentecost means
50. Originally, it was a Jewish feast
called the Feast of Weeks or Shabuoth,
which involved counting a “week of
weeks” or 49 days. Since the Semitic
people start a new day at sundown, the
evening of the last day of the seventh
week, marks the 50th day or Pentecost.
Shabuoth, or Pentecost, was an agri-
cultural feast, occurring 50 days after the
Feast of Unleavened Bread, celebrating
the full ingathering of the barley harvest.
In Old Testament Judaism (and con-
tinuing today), the feast took on another
meaning. Fifty days after their departure
from Egypt (on Passover), the Israelites
arrivedatthefootofMountSinai. There,
they received the Holy Torah. Pentecost
was the day to celebrate the Torah and the
covenant, the heart and soul of Judaism.
The Christian Pentecost celebrates the
coming in power of the new covenant. It
was accompanied by a manifestation of
God which is almost identical to that of
Sinai. It also was an ingathering-not of
barley, but of souls - as people from all
over the world were brought into the
church.
Everyone heard the “good news” in his
own language, although the apostles
spoke their own native tongue (probably
Aramaic). This miracle of understand-
ing is the countertype of the confusion of
tongues at the Tower of Babel in Genesis
Perhaps the greatest miracle of Pente-
cost was the fact that timid and crass men
are changed into bold and wise men. The
most outstanding gift of the Holy Spirit
in the New Testament seems to be this
gift of fortitude: the ability to stand up
fearlessly and proclaim the good news.
