Kronur exchange
The Central Bank of Iceland
recently relaxed restrictions on
exchanging kronur for dollars.
Previously the limit had been set I
at $ 100’s worth of kronur per |
^day and if leaving Iceland, $250.
xchanges of any “reasonable”
amount will be accepted now.
New pet policy takes affect here
Effective Sept. 1, pet dogs, cats and rabbits
on board Naval Air Station (NAS), Keflavfk,
must be registered with NAS Security. Also,
pet owners who have already registered their
pets must re-register.
Pets may be registered any time during
normal working hours, Monday through
Friday. In addition, Security will open for
registration July 10 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m.
Upon registration, the owner will receive a
stamp on his/her ration card. The stamp
entitles the owner to purchase pet food at
either the Commissary or Mini-Mart With-
out the stamped ration card, pet food cannot
be purchased. If two members of a family
have ration cards, it’s recommended both
members get their ration cards stamped.
In addition, one dog, cat or rabbit per
family is authorized, and the size of the
animal when fully grown may not exceed 75
pounds. Families who already own a pet (or
pets) prior to Sept. 1, are exempt from the
number and size restrictions.
Because pet ownership while stationed at
NAS Keflavfk is a privilege that can be re-
voked, pet owners are advised to follow all
base rules pertaining to pets: Pets should
never stray loose. Pet owners must always
and immediately remove excrement left by
their animal, except in the free-run area. Pets
are restricted from common use areas and
must never be tied outdoors. Also, pets must
not disturb the peace and quiet of other fami-
lies.
If complaints arise because of pets, the
complainant must notify the pet owner and
request immediate correction, while docu-
menting the complaint. If the problem is not
corrected, the complainant should request
the assistance of the Area Senior Occupant,
who will also document the complaint. If the
problem continues, the complainant and
senior resident then report the incident to
NAS Security.

Info on Iceland is
at your fingertips
Although it may resemble an arcade ma-
chine, it’s not. Yet, many people at Naval Air
Station, Keflavflc, are enjoying the new “toy”
at the Viking Mall.
Last week, Iceland Info. Inc. installed a
computerized information system that pro-
vides detailed facts and information on Ice-
land. “There’s more information here than
I’ve been able to find the whole time I’ve
been in Iceland,” said Scott George. “It’s a
very helpful machine.”
The computer gives the latest weather and
road conditions. It tells what the current
exchange rate is, what cultural events or
places of interest are available, including mu-
seums, shopping areas, restaurants and ex-
cursions.
A printer is also included with the machine
providing printouts of any of the desired in-
formation. To top it off, a telephone even
allows one to make hotel reservations or
other travel arrangements.
These services and more are available to
base personnel free of charge.
