Snowmobiling trip brings lasting memories
By Sn Sam Steinline
The van was packed and we were on our
way to a most extraordinary weekend. Proj-
ect Player recently offered a wonderful op-
portunity to snowmobile on the Myrdalsjokull
glacier, near the seaside town of Vfk.
The five hour drive to the southern coast of
Iceland was bumpy and rough, and none of us
knew what to expect. When we arrived at the
youth hostel, the quaint house surpassed
everyone’s expectations. We had our own
private farmhouse.
“The youth hostel provided comfort and a
warm family atmosphere,” said Bo Mattley,
Project Player Coordinator.
The following day, we drove to
Myrdalsjokull. It was sunny with scattered
snow showers to remind everyone where we
were. The snowmobile company had pro-
vided everyone with snowsuits that proved
very effective in
keeping the cold out.
Once everyone was bundled up, we were
off on what was to become an awesome trip.
The snowmobiles were faster than most ex-
pected. After turning mine on its side a few
times, I quickly learned the ins and
outs of snowmobiling.
We rode to an 80 meter waterfall
that cuts to the heart of
Myrdalsjokull. Then it was off t^
view an enormous glacial tongufl
“It was the most beautiful natur^
ice formation I have ever seen,”
said Mattley.
The ride lasted only two short
hours, but seemed as if it went
for the whole day. The next
— day was spent travelling
among the small towns and
villages that dot the south
coast of Iceland. Although weary and a bit
haggard from the adventure, everyone agreed
that they would forever have a piece of Ice-
land with them.
