Veteran’s Day weekend filled with sports
Story and photos by J02(AW) Natalie Dias
The base gym decided to celebrate Veteran's Day by having a three-
day sports weekend. The games began on Friday at 7 p.m. with a
badminton tournament. Ten two-man teams took it to the court, and
despite a 15-minute power outage, everyone seemed to have a good
time (lower right). After several hours of play, the team of Steven
Wojciechowski and Albert Maldorado of the Marine Corps Security
Force Company captured first place. In second place were Michael
Masters Jr. and Shawn Walker from the 35th Supply Squadron.
The double elimination volleyball tournament kicked-off at 10
a.m. on Saturday. Eight teams battled it out for first place. After all
the serves, sets and spikes were done, the Joint Forces team, consist-
ing of Commander Fleet Air Keflavfk (CFK) and Air Force personnel
took first. The Gold Diggers clinched second. Coming in third was
the Naval Air Station (NAS) team (below) which was comprised of
Charles T. Butler, NAS commanding officer, NAS personnel and a
few friends.
As the weekend progressed the action became faster and more
furious (right). Sunday's event was an Arena Football Tournament
that began at 1 p.m. A total of nine teams participated. The CFK team
seized first place. Rounding up the last of the winners in this three-
day sports weekend was the 35th Security Police Squadron football
team which clinched second place.
