Base library makes finding a stateside job easier

Being overseas can be difficult at times,
especially when making arrangements to
return to the United States. But the base
library has a new service that could help.
Starting Oct 1, the library started receiving
Help Wanted USA on microfiche. The mi-
crofiche lists the Sunday help-wanted adver-
tisements from 64 stateside newspapers.
“We were going to try this on a six-month
basis,” explained Oskar Gudjonsson, base
librarian. “The reponse has been so good that
I’m probably going to make it permanent”
Gudjonsson also said that people have been
especially pleased with the timeliness of the
microfiche. The fiche is sent weekly and is
usually only ten days behind the date it was
on the newsstands in the states.
Papers from 36 continental states are in-
cluded in the microfiche. “All the staff here
is familiar with it and it’s very easy to use,”
elaborates Gudjonsson. The microfiche is

kept at the front desk. Anyone interested can
ask to look at it. The microfiche reader doq
not have a printer. Gudjonsson advi:

“The Family Service Center has a good re-
location program,” said Gudjonsson. “This
complements it” The library also has com-
pany profiles and other background informa-

UP-3A holiday flight schedule: Plan early

During the holiday season, Naval Air Sta-
tion (NAS) Keflavfk’s UP-3 A aircraft will be
offering four space available (space “A”)
flights. Sign-up is now available through
Passenger Services at the air terminal. Stan-
dard Air Mobility Command (AMC) sign-up
procedures apply to all passengers.
Seating is available on the following flights:
Dec. 8-12: Mildcnhall, England.
Dec. 20: Stuttgart, Germany/ Mildenhall.
Dec. 27: Stuttgart/ Mildenhall.
Jan. 2: Stuttgart/ Mildenhall.
Thirty-five seats are presently available
for each flight. Space “A” call will be con-
ducted two hours before scheduled depar-
ture. Passports, AMC travel sign-up sheets,
leave papers and I.D. cards will be required in
order to board each flight Active-duty mili-
tary members must be in uniform.
Mildenhall is an AMC location. Upon
arrival passengers must stop at the Milden-
hall Passenger Service Desk to sign-up for
return Space “A” travel to Iceland. Ample
seating should be available for the flight from
Mildenhall to Keflavik on Dec. 27. How-
ever, the number of seats available on Jan. 2
will not be known until all of the passengers
in Germany have boarded that day.
Stuttgart is not an AMC destination.
Therefore, NAS Keflavfk will control the
Germany manifest in the following manner:
Passengers departing Keflavfk on Dec. 20
will be manifested for return on the Dec. 27
flight. Passengers departing Keflavfk on
Dec. 27 will be manifested for return on Jan.
2. The intent of this plan is to make travel to
Germany available to the maximum number
of passengers while attempting to avoid leav-
ing passengers behind on Jan. 2.
Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR)
services is offering to assist passengers trav-
elling on the UP-3A by providing room and
car rental reservations at destinations, plus
tour and travel information. For assistance,
c cm tact the MWR Travel Office at ext. 4200.
Seating is limited and will be assigned on
a first come, first serve basis to all qualified
EML travellers. This is a significant tra\^
opportunity to see Europe, timed for tV

Book store celebrates
grand opening
The Religious Book Store opens to-
morrow at the Air Terminal Chapel at
noon and will open every subsequent
Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
The multi-faith store will be stocked
with more than $6,000 worth of religious
books, compact discs and cassettes. Pa-
trons can also make special orders if they
want something not in the inventory.
Since the Religious Book Store is a non
profit organization run by volunteers,
products sold will be priced at the cost of
the item plus shipping.
The store is seeking more volunteers
and eventually would like to expand to ||
five hours of operation on both S aturday s
and Mondays. Anyone interested in vol-
