JPATS aircraft slated for Randolph
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio (AFNS) —
andolph Air Force Base (AFB), Texas, headquarters of the
Air Force’s Air Education and Training Command (AETC),
will receive the first production Joint Primary Aircraft Training
System (JPATS) in early 1999, according to Air Force officials.
JPATS will replace the Air Force’s T-37 aircraft and the
Navy’s T-34C aircraft as the primary aircraft trainer.
That first delivery will be followed by deliveries to three
other AETC undergraduate pilot training bases: Laughlin
AFB, Texas; Vance AFB, Okla., and Columbus AFB, Miss.
While delivery schedules are tentative, depending on when
JPATS contracts are signed, the Air Force eventually will
receive 372 of 711 aircraft in scheduled production increments.
U.S. Navy primary training bases are scheduled to begin
receiving the other 339 JPATS aircraft in early 2002, with the
last delivery in 2017. It will incorporate several features that
are not available on current Air Force and Navy training sys-
tems. Improvements will include missionized ejection seats,
improved birdstrike protection, electronic flight instrumenta-
tion and digital cockpit display, pressurized cockpit, and flexi-
bility to accommodate a wide range of pilot candidates, both
male and female.

fellowship program seeking applicants
Randolph Air Force Base, Texas — Did you know all U.S.
citizens (except federally employed civilians) are eligible to
apply for the White House Fellowship Program? There are no
restrictions for age, sex, race, grade or physical requirements.
This program seeks to draw exceptionally promising people
from throughout the nation providing them first-hand experi-
ence in the process of governing our nation.
Annually, 14 to 20 individuals are selected to work full-time
for a year as special assistants to senior executives in cabinet-
level agencies or in the executive offices of the president or
vice-president.
Military personnel are encouraged to apply. Requests for
application may be directed to: The President’s Commission
on White House Fellows, 712 Jackson Place NW, Washington,
DC 20006, or by calling (202) 395-4522. The application cutoff
date is Dec. 1.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Twenty four months time on station as of Aug. 1, 1996 or rota-
tion date between July 1 through Aug. 31,1996, if overseas.

The Navy Ball Committee is sponsoring three sporting
events to ensure this year’s Navy Ball will outshine past balls.
A walleyball tourney will be held tomorrow and Sunday. A
free-throw and three-on-three basketball competition are slat-
ed for Oct. 7.

In addition to sporting events, various organizations are
supporting the ball through contributions. On Sept. 29, the
Seabees are holding a Hot Wing Sale at the Fleet Reserve
from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. That same evening, the Seabees
will have their dunk tank set up and arc donating a large por-
tion of the proceeds to the Navy Ball Committee. The Fleet
Reserve will also donate a portion of its proceeds from the
evening’s events.
