Á árinu 1994 tók endanlega í gildi ný mæling skipa, brúttótonn (bt.) í stað brúttórúmlesta (brl.), sem hafði í för með sér verulega stækkun á mælingu sumra skipa,
þannig að tölur um stærð skipa 1994 eru ekki sambærilegar við eldri tölur. In 1994 a new method ofmeasuring tonnage wasfinally adopted, using GT (gross
tonnage) instead of GRT (gross register tonnes). This added considerably to the measured units ofsome vessels, making the 1994 figures incomparable witli
older ones.
