3) Skv. ákvæðum laga iir. 87/1989 um verkaskiptingu ríkis og sveitarfélaga tók ríkið alfarið að sér sjúkratryggingar frá og með 1. janúar 1990.1 kjölfarið voru
sjúkrasamlögin lögð niður. Útgjöldin sem þau báru áður, eru nú færð undir sjúkratryggingar almannatrygginga að undanskildum skrifstofukostnaði, sem færður er
með rekstrarkostnaði Tryggingarstofnunar. According to legislation in 1989 (Act. No. 87/1989) the state took over allhealth insuranceJunctions as of 1 January
1990 and the municipal health insurance funds were discontinued. As a result health insurance expenditures were transferred to the social security health
insurance scheme exceptfor administration costs, which became part ofthe overall administration costs ofthe State Social Security Institute.
