Sigur Rós gave a Christmas gift to the city of Reykjavík in 2017 in the guise of the inaugural Norður
og Niður festival. Initially planned as a series of four Sigur Rós shows to end two years of touring
around the world, the idea quickly spiralled into something bigger, with the band inviting a rich
variety of artists, dancers, bands, performers, and guest lecturers to participate in what quickly
became an exciting new festival. The halls of Harpa were transformed into a vibrant showcase for
the arts. The Reykjavík Grapevine was, of course, on hand to see what went down and report it back
to you.
