Flight-Sergeant reports that he has shot down a German aircraft. ■

A gentle hint. Sinclair Lewis,
the 1930 winner of the Nobel
Prize for Literature, had been
invited to preside at a literary
club dinner given in honour of
another wellknown novelist, and,
having duly eulogized their gu-
est, concluded thus:
“An old farmer drove into town
and, going to a corn shop, bought
some oats. Stabling his horse at
the side of the road, he gave,
him a real good dinner. When
it was over, the old man clim-
bed into the trap, took the ra-
ins, and addressed the animal:
„Now you’ve been fed, get up!“
Then the speaker turned to-
wards the guest og the evening,

Nazi Foe No. l’s Brother
in America.
German Gestapo agents
in Portugal have been
making repeated efforts
to kill Otto Strasser,
“Hitler’s enemy No. 1” —
his brother revealed when
he arrived at La Guardia
Field on the Dixie Clipper.
The brother, Bernard
Strasser, a Benedictine
monk, refused to discuss
his own or his brother’s
plans beyond saying that
attempts to “liquidate”
Otto had followed the re-
velation that he had
sought sanctuary in Portu-
gal.
Nazi wrath was direct-
ed against Otto, once high
in the councils of the
third Reich, after the
Munich beer-hall bomb
blast last Nov. 8 in which
according to Nazi reports,
Hitler narrowly escaped
death. He is now first on
the Nazi “register of
traitors” charged with
organizing the attempt
against the German Fuehr-
er’s life.
