Welcome to Gay Pride 2001
Different Days in Reykjavík
Last year's Gay Pride festivities in Reykjavík, organized byfive
Icelandic gay organizations and action groups, became a mar-
vellous success. A huge, merry and colourfui Gay Parade
through the main shopping street Laugavegur in the city center
and a grand outdoor concert attended by close to ten thousand
participants - lesbians and gay men, friends, relatives, fellow
citizens and numerous foreign visitors - showing solidarity with
the gay cause on the second iveekend of August.
Thisyear's GayPride celebrations, on Saturday August llth,
have been prepared to meet our wildest expectations, a Gay
Parade even more glamorous than last year's and a variety of
ivell knoivnprofessional entertainersperforming on a big stage.
A very welcome and honoured guest is the mayor of Reykjavík,
Ms. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, who shows her support to the
gay movement with an address at Ingólfstorg Square.
We are pleased to welcome you to our festivities, Gay Pride
2001 - Different Days in Reykjavík. We emphazise that gay soli-
darity can only be realized universally. Thankyou for joining
us - thankyou for addingyour own special touch ofcolour to the
rainbow ivhich will be shining over Reykjavík on a joyful day.
