Campers can learn the Icelandic language, read sagas, sing Icelandic songs & participate in many more cultural activities. They will also enjoy all the fun activities that come with summer camp – volleyball, soccer, arts, crafts, field trips to Gimli, evening games, swimming and lots more. Visit www. icelandiccamp2010.com for details. July 31, August 1 & 2 Edmonton, AB: Come visit the Scandinavian Pavilion at this year’s Heritage Festival at William Hawrelak Park. The pavilion will be serving some of the more popular and traditional Scandinavian foods, present Scandinavian music and dancing by adults and children plus displays of their culture. Entertainment will include the Valhala Scandinavian Folk Dancers and Vasa Order of America. These dancers will be on stage all three days. For more information, visit www.heritage- festival.com/ ICELANDIC CLASSES Wednesdays Gimli, MB: Kaffitími (coffee time) in Gimli takes place at 3 p.m. each Wednesday, meeting at Amma’s Tea Room at the Gimli Waterfront Centre. There is no signup and no teacher. Anyone is welcome to drop in; the only fee is the price of your cup of cof- fee. There is only one rule – you need to talk Icelandic in order to participate in the chat around the table. If you just want to listen at first that’s fine too! MUSIC Tuesday 8 June Winnipeg, MB: Bluebird North songwriters’ showcase featuring Chris Thorsteinson, Bryce Pallister, Fred Penner and Phil Deschambault. 7:30 p.m. at the Park Theatre, 698 Osborne Street. Bluebird North: Where Writers Sing and Tell is a songwriters’ showcase presented by the Songwriters Association of Canada. Every show features a different line-up of talented Canadian songwriters.
