INL of NA conference organizers are very pleased that Heather Jonasson from
Winnipeg will be the feature
performer at our Opening
Ceremonies on Friday, May 4th.
Heather has performed in
Canada, the United States and
in Cuba as a part of the Collège
Sturgeon Heights Collegiate
Symphonic Band and Wind
Ensemble. She started playing
the flute in her middle school
band at the age of 11, and
commenced private lessons at
the age of 14 with Laurel Ridd.
Now 18, this native of Winnipeg
is studying for a B.Mus. at the
University of Manitoba.
She is presently a member of
the University of Manitoba Wind
Ensemble and is the principal
flutist of the Winnipeg Youth
Symphony Orchestra (current
holder of the Julie Banton
Trophy). Heather made her
soloist debut performing Cécile
Chaminade’s “Concertino”
with the Sturgeon Heights
Symphonic Band in June 2011.
She has also had the opportunity
to perform alongside members
of the Winnipeg Symphony
Orchestra on many occasions
as a part of the annual Rising
Stars Concert. Heather actively
participates in the Syrinx Flute
Festival, as well as the Winnipeg
Music Festival, being awarded
the Long & McQuade Trophy
for 2012.
Having done well in
festivals and competitions, she
has been commended by many
adjudicators for her use of tone
colours and stage presence.
Though she loves to perform,
she also enjoys listening to other
performers and is pleased to
watch others succeed in music.
She can often be found giving
one-on-one help and motivation
to flute players across the city. Heather Jonasson
