§ 17:10:2 Communion Semel iuraui (cf. LU 1132, Common of One Mar-
tyr who was a bishop)
§ 17:11:2 Postcommunion Sumptis Domine sacramentis. quesumus interce-
dente beato N. martire tuo, etc. (from the Com-
mon of One Martyr, sig. i XIIIv)
It will be noted that the Gospel of this Mass agrees with K against Ms,
but the collect and secret with Ms against K.
4.1.4. In 1510 - surprisingly late considering the place of publication -
followed an impressive folio volume printed in Copenhagen by
Matthæus Brandis and consequently known as the Missale Hafniense
(LN 179, here designated MH). Since a colophon at the end of the book
States that it was produced under the supervision of Andreas Friis, cantor
of the collegiate church of Our Lady in Copenhagen, it must necessarily
reflect the use of that church and its subordinate parishes on Zealand.63
At ff. 204r and 219v of the Sanctorale (sig. A iiij, C iij) MH has Mas-
ses for the Passion and the Translation respectively. The rubric at the be-
ginning of the latter specifies that the texts are identical except for the
collects of the day. Here too there are many deviations from the Kiel
manuscript but some correspondences with the Schleswig missal (K]
MH):
§17:1 Introit Letabitur iustus (cf. the Versus alleluiaticus in
Missale Viburgense, above)
§ 17:2:1 Collect de passione Deus in cuius, as K § 1:6 (collect at First Ves-
pers) with the following variants: 36 fide]
mandatis; dux] + et martir; firmiter] viriliter;
37 presta] concede; 38 inmerito morti] morti
immerite; mortern - promeruimus] mortern
quam meruimus (befare 39 euadere); meritis]
+ et precibus; 39 mereamur] valeamus
63 Haapanen (n. 58 above) 35. It has been argued, reasonably enough, that the use of
Copenhagen must have conformed more or less with that of the diocesan seat in Roskilde,
a church whose failure to print a missal in its own name is admittedly hard to explain (bre-
viaries bearing the name of Roskilde saw the light of day in 1511 and 1517, see section
4.2.3 below). Cf. Merete Geert Andersen, “De trykte missaler fra Roskilde stift og deres
bogtrykkere - en nyvurdering,” in: Nordisk tidskrift for bok- och biblioteksvasen 75, 1988,
