As already noted in section 2.2.1, the last lesson of the second nocturn at
Matins ends by mentioning the increase in number of the saint’s posthu-
mous miracles. O’s narrative, like those of N and S, in other words stops
short of the Translation as such. The rubric before Matins, if not faulty,
implies that the proper responds were not used at the Translation feast;
this makes good sense in so far as the responds dwell on the saint’s life
and death, only the last two referring to the miracles that justified his
canonisation and translation.
The lessons of the third nocturn are again left to the discretion of the
user, but the first half of K’s homily for the Translation (edition lines
801-23) is in faet present in O in the third nocturn of Matins for the Vo-
tive Office of St Knud the King. This concordance, which escaped even
the vigilant eye of Gertz, displays the following variants (K] O):76 805
nunc] om.; reuelatur] reuelabitur; 807 impiorum] ipsorum; 808 seui]
serui; ducem] regem (so also at 823); 809 in eum armis] armis in eum;
75 Omitted in SRD; quoted here from sig. mm 6r in the first edition.
