The Roskilde sources have a relatively meagre supply of texts for the
Translation Office, most of which is directed to be read or sung ut supra
(so in RD, less accurately: omnia sicut R) in natali eius. Here - as in S -
Second Vespers of St John the Baptist takes precedence over First Ve-
spers of the Translation. The elements specified for the latter feast are

Here again O seems to have the Vespers collect from *y, since its choice
of prayer agrees with K against both Roskilde witnesses. The choice of
Gospel may have been an innovation in the *r2-branch of the stemma;
the Gospel in *r' is not transmitted.
The lessons of the Roskilde redaction of the liturgy are succinct to the
point of being perfunctory. There are three for each of the first two noc-
tums, as in O and S, beginning at the Passion feast with the scene where
Magnus summons his men to arms (cf. K 307-12) and proceeding di-
rectly to the key exchange of words between murderer and victim (K
364 sermonibus odij, etc.), after which the rest of K’s eighth lesson is cut
up into snippets of two or three sentences each. Traces of the fuller nar-
rative suppressed by the redactor can occasionally be seen: thus, R omits
everything between K 312 and 364 except the rhetorical question Quid
plura? (K 326), which is lifted out and used as a bridging device, and at
K 377 the nickname Skatelar (specified in an earlier lesson in K) is sub-
