ADDENDA
After the introduction to this edition had been completed I discovered
that I had overlooked two relevant references in the publications of the
Danish liturgical historian Merete Geert Andersen. One of them is in a
survey of ongoing research presented at a conference in Finland in 1975
(see Nordiskt kollokvium III, n. 19 above, 161-62); it reports the exis-
tence of a much damaged fragment of a fifteenth-century Danish manu-
script breviary in Manchester, England (currently Manchester Central
Library, Manchester Archives and Local Studies BR/091. F9), contain-
ing the Passion Office of St Knud Lavard. This fragment is said to show
evidence of affiliation with the diocese of Roskilde, and I regret that I
was not able to see it prior to the appearance of my study.
The other reference is in the same scholar’s article on the Missale
Viburgense (as n. 56 above, 103 with nn. 70-71). It draws attention to
Cod. Holm. A 35 in the Royal Library, Stockholm, here stated to be of
Danish provenance. I have made a preliminary inspection of photo-
graphs of this manuscript. Merete Geert Andersen argues that it must
postdate the Translation of St Catherine of Sweden in 1489, and a date
shortly after 1500 would at first sight seem very plausible. The library’s
handwritten catalogue reports that the volume is made up of 30 parch-
ment and 94 paper leaves measuring ca. 23 x 16 cm. It contains liturgi-
cal and devotional material in Latin (ff. l-99va) and devotional materi-
al in the vemacular (ff. 99vb-124ra, where the writing ends after only
10 lines; most of the remaining, originally unused, part of f. 124 has
been cut away). Merete Geert Andersen adduces evidence of English in-
fluence and thinks that A 35 may have Bridgettine, but also in particular
Franciscan, affiliations. The high status assigned to St Kjeld in the Latin
part of the compilation suggests to her some connection with the diocese
of Viborg, Jutland.
At f. 29rb24—34 this Stockholm codex has a text of the Passion collect
of St Knud Lavard with the following variant readings (K] A 35): 36
Kanutus] Kaanutus (!), 38 ipse] om. (- N), promeruimus] meruimus (=
