20 NISSEN NEWS Just Another Day It is eight in the morn And the long night has gorn (sorry — gone); To our duties we go ■— a new day begun; “Any lorries to spare? Are they ALL on repair?” Sure, they’re all V.O.R. except one. So off with a dash Go the lads for red ash For there’s roads to be made and hut-banking to do; And it’s not quite so nice, when the snow and the ice, And blizzards and gales, and what have you, come true. With a crack ’bout “The Whip” They come back off each trip, Bringing ash which is crimson, but free And if they’re in luck — and the lorries not stuck — They adjourn at eleven for tea. Then dinner comes near; Hear the bugle sound clear? Picks, spades and shovels are thrown to the ground; And they crowd to the diners To eat, just like miners; And they only cease work when the Ord. Off. comes round The afternoon session we then set in state; The War Office say we must now educate; 1'here is Signalling, Maths and English for you, Young and old, cook and clerk, and sanit’ry men too; So stick to it lads, it mayn’t be your trait, But learn while you can — it’s never too late (oush!) Late passes at night —• a lorry again! What else can one use? There isn’t a train. Enjoy yourselves, boys, then call it a day, It will all end some day — and you may still be sane! R. S. M. ACKNOWLEDGMENT We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to our printers, Félagsprentsmiðjan h.f., for their willing and valuable co-operation in helping us in this, our first, effort to publish an English magazine in Iceland.
