Highland type, descending often to the lowland. An average individual has usually 2 stems with ca. 8 flowers on a stem (aver. from 12 samples). Each capsule contains about 60 seeds (aver. from 6 samples); one aver. indiv. produces thus about 960 seeds. Hafnarfjörður (Solander), Krísuvík (Zoega), Bæjarfell on the W-PIateau 580 m; Sveifluháls 320 m; Syðri-Stapi 142 m; Ketill 240 m; Lambhagi 140 m; Brennisteinsfjöll 460 m; Hólmshraun nj m; Hveradalir 360 m; Vífilsfell 620 m. 155. Saxifraga tenuis (Whlbg. pro var.) EL Smith in Lindman (1918) 300. 310—620 m. A typical highland plant. Rare. Seems to be new for the southern and western part of Iceland; Gröntved (1942) 265 writes sub. S. nivalis v. tenuis: “found in some places in E and N.” Brennisteinsfjöll 480 m; Helliskarð 364 m; Vífilsfell 620 m; fl. 31.
