96 A T L A N T I C A Cool Timing Are you someone who likes ice climbing, diving to the bottom of the ocean, surfing in dangerous waves or parachute-jumping from steep cliffs? Do you still want to keep track of time and look irre- sistible while hanging from a sharp ice formation or touching a giant octopus? Then you’re the reason why the 230-year-old watchmaking company Japy forged the Modèle 08 watch. All unnecessary features have been discarded. Only the essentials are here: Its robust mechanical movement with automatic winding is perfectly sheltered inside a double-shell case of 316L stainless steel. Its functional dials are protected by a thick sapphire crystal which has been treated on both surfaces to prevent reflections, and the crown is set in a protected housing, locked by a safety nut. This awesome watch is water resistant up to 1000 feet (300 metres), and fitted on an oversized steel or leather band. A cool watch for cool individuals. TLG i-site MIXED BAG❍ Siggi Halliday In the current issue of Condé Nast Traveller, Icelandic chef, Siggi Hall’s restaurant, Siggi Hall, was named as one of the best one hundred eateries from Rome to Rio. The magazine’s critique stat- ed that restaurant Siggi Hall is a wonderful place to eat lobster and salt fish dishes. Siggi is, not surprisingly, delighted, but also believes that this list- ing is of greater significance to Iceland: “I am, of course, hon- oured that my restaurant was chosen, but I am most happy that it is now written in black and white that Iceland is a place where people can find gourmet food.” Today, many visitors to Iceland are taking the opportunity to enjoy not only fish, but beef dishes, since the environment here pro- motes healthy produce. “We produce some of the finest meat, fish, vegetable and diary products in the world here in Iceland, and we are using new ideas and recipes to make first class gourmet food,” adds Siggi. Passengers will be pleased to hear that Siggi is now a menu con- sultant with Icelandair and also works with icelandnaturally.com as a culinary ambassador. But those wondering what put Siggi Hall on the knife and fork map of the world, will have to taste for themselves. Restaurant Siggi Hall at Hótel Ódinsvé, Ódinstorg, 101 Reykjavík.
