Next October, Iceland will be gUEST OF HONOR AT THE ANNUAL FRANkFURT
BOOk FAIR, the largest and most prestigious book fair in the world. Iceland is the
first Scandinavian country to receive this honor. In relation to the fair, a variety of
events showcasing Icelandic arts, music and literature has been hosted this year.

Iceland has begun official negotiations to ENTER THE EUROPEAN UNION. The
agreement, which is expected to be finalized in the summer of 2012, will then be
put to a national referendum.

Music by ICELANDIC BAND STEED LORD is featured on hit Fox reality television
series So You Think You Can Dance, thanks to one of the show’s choreographers,

The annual ICELAND AIRwAvES FESTIvAL is coming up in October. This year’s
highlights include the British/Icelandic band The vaccines, US instrumental rock

Last June, the Icelandic national team competing in the mEN’S U-21 SOCCER
EUROPEAN CHAmPIONSHIP was only one goal away from the semi-finals. The
team beat Denmark 3-1 after having already lost to Belarus and Switzerland. This was
Iceland’s first participation in the EC, promising a bright future in Icelandic soccer.
Los Angeles based photographer Sigthór Markússon has opened an exhibition
entitled BARE LANDSCAPES in his home town Reykjavík at Gallerí Listamenn,
